Game Designer Helsinki

Are you a versatile Game Designer up for owning the gameplay balancing of our next hit game?

Ready to join one of Europe's fastest growing game companies?

If yes, Metacore could be the right place for you

We are a Helsinki-based game company best known for our hit game Merge Mansion and our people-first company culture. Built on trust, our culture allows us to work autonomously, efficiently, and ambitiously. We have mutually agreed on five cultural norms to describe how we build trust and work as Metacore – you can find them here.

Our company’s mission is to entertain hundreds of millions of people for decades. Although we already entertain 40,000,000+ players worldwide and have grown into a team of 120+ game industry professionals in less than two years, we’re only getting started. That’s where we hope you come in: to take ownership of the gameplay balancing in one of our upcoming games, in line to be our second hit. You will also support the growing combat and liveops design needs as part of the game’s launch.

Responsibilities

Game Designer plays a key role in gameplay balancing and designing in-game features to help us meet the growing design needs of our upcoming game set to launch this year. In practice, this means (at least) the following:

  • Designing in-game, mostly liveops, features and taking ownership of the gameplay balancing, specifically combat gameplay balancing. Your all-round expertise will complement the economy design skills we have in the team

  • Creating clear and detailed documentation of the design and presenting it to the team

  • Designing game features from concept to implementation while ensuring that every system in the game is tuned and works seamlessly together with the rest

  • Being the go to person for liveops features and game balancing, but also have a good understanding of all the features in the game

Requirements

Every role is eventually shaped to match our unique passions, backgrounds and strengths. Here are some of the key skills and experience you should already have when joining Metacore as a Game Designer:

  • Experience working on live mobile games

  • Working 3+ years in the gaming industry, preferably on a mid-core game

  • Clear understanding and knowledge of free to play games

  • Experience in game design, game systems, and balancing

  • Logical thinker with strong attention to detail. Working with numbers and analyzing data is your second nature, and Excel is a go-to in your toolkit

  • Ability to communicate game concepts in a strong and concise way

In addition to these, it would be nice but not mandatory for you to have these as well:

  • Level design experience

  • Programming or scripting skills

  • Experience with Unity

Sounds about right? Then let’s talk!
