The Difficult Decision of Discontinuing Everdale

After careful consideration, Metacore has made the difficult decision to stop pursuing Everdale and cease its development. Since acquiring the game from Supercell in early 2023, we have strived to expand its world and better understand the market potential. Despite our efforts, we were unable to find a path to improve its market fit and make it a sustainable business.

Metacore’s mission is to entertain hundreds of millions of people for decades, by creating a portfolio of world-class hit games that keep engaging big audiences and provide us with a sustainable business. We strive to understand our audiences as thoroughly as possible from what drives them and what keeps them coming back to their favorite game day after day.

That’s why, when we acquired Everdale from Supercell, we started with a deep dive into the game, with the hope of better understanding the game's world and motivations of Everdale’s strong player community. We hoped to strengthen the world of Everdale, but never made any concrete promises for the game.

The team was on a mission to dismantle Everdale: We talked to the players and tried to find ways for the game to have a stronger market fit and become a sustainable business. Unfortunately, we have not been able to find a way to improve the game’s market fit to keep serving Everdale’s audience long-term.

After much consideration, we have made the difficult choice to discontinue our work on Everdale and return its IP to Supercell. This has been a hard decision for us, especially knowing what a keen player community there was behind Everdale.

While this process didn’t offer us the results we initially hoped for, this time spent working on Everdale has offered us a lot of learnings and insight. We hope to see those learnings put into practice with our new games development in the future.
