Mobile game studio Metacore secures €150 million funding from Supercell
Since releasing their first game Merge Mansion in late 2020, Metacore’s annual revenue run rate has reached €45 million, putting them on track to become one of the fastest-growing game studios in Europe. The new funding will be used to scale Merge Mansion’s global operations and strengthen Metacore’s core team.

Finnish mobile game company Metacore has secured a €150 million credit line from Supercell to support the expansion of their rapidly growing studio. Following the success of their first IP, a puzzle discovery game called Merge Mansion, Metacore’s annual revenue run rate has reached over €45 million and more than 800,000 players now play Merge Mansion every day.
“Merge Mansion has clearly found its core audience since being launched in 2020 – now we’re looking to build a truly global entertainment brand around Merge Mansion. The continued support from Supercell enables us to expand our operations and grow our team in this new and exciting phase of our story while maintaining our independence. We couldn’t be happier to have an experienced partner like Supercell in our corner,” Metacore CEO and Co-Founder Mika Tammenkoski explains.
Supercell has backed the game studio for years, with an initial investment of €5 million in 2018 followed by a €15 million investment and €10 million credit line in 2020. The new credit line financing provided by Supercell strengthens Metacore’s ability to accelerate their growth while maintaining their current ownership structure and autonomy.
“Metacore is going from strength to strength. Merge Mansion launched globally against very high expectations, and it’s safe to say that Metacore not only met those expectations, but also showcased what an exceptional team they are. We invest first and foremost in exactly that – strong teams, and their ability to make amazing games independently. Our role as investors is only to offer support and remove obstacles that prevent our portfolio companies from realizing their true potential,” Supercell’s Investments Lead Jaakko Harlas says.
Metacore looks to fill key roles in game development and brand marketing
Metacore has a distinctive approach to scaling their studio: they build and test their games with small, 2-3 person teams that have full autonomy over games they develop, and only expand these teams once they’ve validated the concept on the market through player feedback. This allows Metacore to quickly pivot or scrap game projects that players aren’t responding to, but also means the studio can swiftly act when it’s clear they have a hit game like Merge Mansion on their hands.
Metacore has doubled their team size to close to 30 since last fall and is actively recruiting for key roles in game development, brand marketing and other strategic business functions, but Tammenkoski emphasizes that they’re not rushing with recruitment and are taking the time to find the right fit.
“This is a pivotal point in Metacore’s journey and Merge Mansion’s growth. Now we’re focused on filling the critical roles that will help us seize the momentum,” Tammenkoski sums.
