Update on Metacore's Restructuring

We announced earlier in May the unfortunate plans to restructure Metacore’s organization to better align with the core business Merge Mansion, improve efficiency of operations, and respond to an increasingly competitive market environment. At the same time, our major shareholder Supercell announced plans to bring Merge Mansion into its live game portfolio by acquiring the rest of Metacore. We’re not commenting on the potential acquisition while it’s still in the works. However, we want to give an update on the restructuring and results of the change negotiations at Metacore.
Since the launch of Merge Mansion in 2020, Metacore has grown significantly, building the organization with the ambition to scale Merge Mansion further and launch new games. While Merge Mansion remains a strong and stable game with a loyal player base and an engaging brand, its growth has plateaued over the past few years, and despite our investments, we haven’t succeeded in launching new games.
For these reasons, we started change negotiations in Finland, and have also investigated the impacts to our operations in Germany and Sweden.
We have concluded the change negotiations and have communicated the results with our employees earlier this week. As a result of the change negotiations, Metacore is reducing 159 roles in Finland. In addition, we will close down our operations in Germany and Sweden.
These have been really difficult and painful decisions, and we fully understand the impact this has – not only on our employees, but also on the game industry that has not had it easy.
To support our affected employees, we’ve put together a package that includes reasonable severance, the option to keep work devices, extended occupational healthcare and wellbeing services, as well as a range of transition measures to help people find their next opportunity.
As I said to our team earlier: we are painfully aware that we are letting go of amazing talent. Each and every one of our Metacoreans were carefully recruited, contributed to our games and our culture and played an important part in building Metacore’s story. I’m grateful to every one of them and genuinely sorry that our journey will not continue together.
We are doing our best to support these team members in finding their next opportunities, and believe that any company would be lucky to have them on their team. So recruiters, if you’re looking for skilled, ambitious and compassionate professionals in various different fields, please keep ex-Metacoreans on your radar.
